ROYAL COUNTY   (7% abv)

A pale gold, naturally dry cider with a fresh, citric taste. Made from a mix of quality local apples which may vary from year to year, but includes some cider apples from Douai Abbey, between Newbury and Reading, where the monks planted some trees in the 1930s.

The 1997 pressing produced an extra dry, very assertive cider (voted Cider of the Festival at the Milton Keynes Beer and Cider Festival) but since 1998 the juice has been 'keeved' to produce a naturally sweeter drink.

A limited amount of the 2006 pressing is still available in 75 cl bottles with tamper-evident re-sealable screw caps.

ABBEY GOLD   (7% abv)

Now that the monks of Douai Abbey no longer make cider they have let us have the fruit, and if there was a particularly good crop, as there was in 2006, we made a batch of this dry, nutty, West Country style cider. Some of it is blended with ROYAL COUNTY and mulled with spices and sugar to produce a very popular winter drink, but some of the 2006 pressing is still available in the same type of bottles as ROYAL COUNTY.

OLD BERKSHIRE PERRY   (5.5% abv)

This is made from the fruit of two mysterious old pear trees of unknown type growing on opposite sides of the Kennet Valley. Both trees produced enormous crops in 2006, so the result was blended as OLD BERKSHIRE perry.

Some of this has been bottled in the same way as ROYAL COUNTY and ABBEY GOLD, but most of it has been bottle-fermented in champagne bottles to produce a naturally sparkling drink, and the much-smaller 2007 pressing will be treated in the same way.
